What is agentic finance?
Agentic finance is your numbers watched and narrated by agentic workflows: multi-step jobs that read your books exports, pricing rules, budgets, and recurring obligations, then draft the readouts, the anomaly flags, and the month-end prep for your approval. The system never executes a payment.
The foundation it reads.
Books exports, pricing rules, budgets, and recurring obligations. Held in the agentic knowledge base like every other layer. Finance is where grounding matters most literally: a number that came from a file is checkable, and a number a model produced from context is a guess wearing a decimal point. Every readout traces back to the export it came from.
The workflows it runs.
- Cash and P&L readouts in plain language. What happened, what changed, and what it means, written the way you would explain it rather than the way a statement presents it.
- Anomaly flags. A cost jumped, a margin slipped, a recurring charge appeared that nobody recognizes. Surfaced when it happens rather than at year end.
- Invoice chasing drafts. The awkward email written for you, so the reason it never went out stops being that you did not want to write it.
- Month-end prep checklists. What needs gathering, drafted against your actual obligations, so the close starts from a list instead of from memory.
The human gate.
Nothing posts, pays, or reaches a client without you. The system reads, narrates, and drafts. It does not execute.
Where other tools in this category treat approval as a setting on the way to full autonomy, here it is the boundary the layer is built around, because the failure mode of an autonomous finance agent is not an awkward sentence, it is money.
Where it shows up.
Most of the time you do not open a finance tool at all. The flags surface through the morning report, which is where you were already looking, and the deeper readouts arrive weekly. A finance layer you have to remember to check is a finance layer you will stop checking.
The honest caveat.
Narration is not audit. This layer tells you what your books say, in language you can act on, and it will repeat an error that is already in the books with the same confidence it repeats a fact.
It makes your numbers legible weekly instead of annually. It does not make them correct, and it is not a substitute for someone qualified signing off on them.
